Peer Tutors work collaboratively with students to reinforce course content, develop effective study strategies, and promote independent learning.
This position is designed for junior- or senior-level students who serve as positive academic role models while gaining professional experience in teaching, communication, and leadership.Not community service.This Federal Work Study position will support current students in the following ways:Providing peer-to-peer academic assistance in specific coursesReinforcing understanding of course content and key conceptsPromoting effective study strategies and independent learning skillsIncreasing student confidence, persistence, and academic successIn addition, this position will complement and reinforce a Federal Work Study student’s educational program or vocational goals in the following ways:Strengthening subject-matter knowledge through review and application of course contentDeveloping communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills applicable to a wide range of careersProviding experience in teaching, mentoring, and collaborative problem-solvingEncouraging responsibility, professionalism, and effective time managementResponsibilities:Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions for course Graphic Design 102. Tutor must have earned a grade B or higher in Graphic Design 102.Assist students with understanding course concepts, assignments, and exam preparation while encouraging independent problem-solvingMaintain professionalism, punctuality, and confidentiality in all tutoring interactionsPrepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing course materials and coordinating with students as neededAccurately track tutoring hours and complete required Federal Work-Study documentationCommunicate regularly with the tutoring coordinator or supervising staff regarding student progress, scheduling, and concernsParticipate in required training sessionsUphold institutional academic integrity policies
Qualifications
:Must be a junior or senior or graduate student in the assigned programMust maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higherMust have passed the class for which they are tutoring with a B or higherDirector review and approvalLocation: Remote or OnsiteReports to: Chantelle Ferguson, Online Language Support DirectorPay Rate: $19.61 per hour Application Deadline: July 13, 2026Work Schedule: Approximately 6 hours/week*Federal Work Study schedules can work up to 20 hours per week**Federal Work Study work schedules may not conflict with the student's class schedule.Length of Employment: The student's third year at Academy of Art University through graduation.Academy of Art University offers part-time employees paid sick leave.Academy of Art University is an equal opportunity employer.
