Senior Software Engineer

The RoleWe’re looking for experienced Senior Software Engineers who enjoy building scalable systems, working with cloud infrastructure, and delivering high-quality software in production environments.This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and cloud/platform engineering. You’ll be designing, building, and operating modern software solutions using technologies such as Java, Python, C#/.NET and TypeScript, while working closely with cloud platforms and engineering teams to deliver reliable, production-ready systems.It’s a strong fit for someone who takes ownership, is comfortable leading technical decisions, and enjoys improving how software is designed, built, and operated. We’re also looking for engineers who embrace modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development and agentic ways of working, to help teams work more effectively and deliver greater value.What You'll Be DoingDesign, build, and maintain software solutions using Java, Python, C#/.NET and/or TypeScriptDevelop cloud-native applications across AWS, Azure, or GCPContribute to system architecture and make key technical decisionsBuild and integrate APIs, event-driven systems, and distributed applicationsCollaborate with platform teams to ensure reliable, scalable deploymentsContribute to CI/CD pipelines and improve engineering workflowsLeverage AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows to improve productivity and software qualityIdentify opportunities to automate routine engineering tasks through intelligent tooling and AITroubleshoot issues across application and infrastructure layersMentor engineers and contribute to a strong engineering cultureWork closely with cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready softwareRequiredStrong experience building production systems using Java, Python, C#/.NET or TypeScriptSolid experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)Good understanding of system design, distributed systems, and scalable architecturesExperience building and consuming APIs (REST and event-based systems)Comfortable working across the full software delivery lifecycle (build, deploy, operate)Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals and best practicesExperience contributing to technical design and architectural decisionsAbility to take ownership and drive technical solutions from concept to deliveryInterest in modern AI-enabled engineering practices and continuous improvementNice to HaveExperience with React, Angular, or VueExperience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormationExposure to containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and KubernetesFamiliarity with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOpsExperience working in cross-functional, agile product teamsExperience integrating AI services, LLMs, or agent-based systems into software productsInterest in improving engineering standards, tooling, and ways of working through automation and AI-assisted developmentPlease note: We offer flexible hybrid working, but candidates should be based in Northern Ireland and able to attend our Belfast office when required.Why Join Instil?At Instil, we believe great work starts with happy, motivated people.
